How to play Battleship
Each side hides five ships on a 10x10 grid: a Carrier (5 squares), Battleship (4), Cruiser (3), Submarine (3) and Destroyer (2). Tap the square where each ship should start and it extends right or down. Press R or Rotate to switch direction, tap a placed ship to move it, or use Random placement. Then press Ready.
Players take turns firing one shot at the enemy grid, hit or miss. Hits show as a cross and misses as a dot, and a sunk ship is revealed and crossed off the fleet list. The first side to sink all five enemy ships wins. Play the computer, or create an online room and send the code or invite link to a friend.
Tips
- βΈSearch in a checkerboard pattern. The smallest ship covers two squares, so firing at every other square is sure to find every ship.
- βΈAfter a hit, try the four squares around it, then follow the line once you find a second hit.
- βΈShips may touch. A sunk ship is revealed, so any of your hits outside it belong to another ship you still need to finish.
- βΈOnce the Destroyer is sunk, the smallest ship left is three squares long, so you can space your search shots more widely.
Battleship FAQ
- How smart is the computer opponent?
- It searches in a checkerboard pattern and, after a hit, follows the line until the ship sinks. It never sees where your ships are.
- Do I get another shot after a hit?
- No. Turns always alternate, one shot each.
- How do I play Battleship with a friend online?
- Create a room and share the 5-character code or the invite link. Once you have both placed your fleets and pressed Ready, the battle begins. If your friend leaves, the computer takes over.
