How to play Asteroid Belt
You pilot a small ship in a field of drifting rocks. Rotate with the left and right keys, thrust with up and fire with Space. The ship keeps gliding after you stop thrusting and slows down gradually. Your ship, the rocks and your shots all wrap around, so leaving one edge brings you back on the opposite side.
Shooting a large asteroid splits it into two medium ones, and each medium one into two small ones. Large rocks score 20, medium 50 and small 100. A flying saucer turns up now and then and shoots at you. Clear every rock to start the next wave, which brings one more large asteroid. You have three ships.
Tips
- ▸Small rocks score the most but move the fastest, so avoid breaking too many large rocks at once.
- ▸Use hyperspace (X) only as a last resort. It drops you at a random spot, possibly right next to a rock, and takes two seconds to recharge.
- ▸Hold Space for steady fire. Up to five shots can be in the air at once, so sweep them across a cluster.
- ▸Thrust in short bursts. Staying near the middle and turning to shoot is safer than flying around at speed.
Asteroid Belt FAQ
- How many points is the saucer worth?
- 200 points plus 50 for every wave, so it pays more the further you get. Its aim also improves in later waves.
- What happens after you lose a ship?
- A new ship appears in the centre once no rocks are nearby, and it flashes for a couple of seconds while it cannot be hit.
- How do I play on a touch screen?
- On a phone, an on-screen d-pad rotates and thrusts the ship, the A button fires and the B button jumps to hyperspace.
